Write a six-paragraph essay that compares and/or contrasts the political views of two of the writers assigned in this unit (Nicolo Machiavelli and Mary Wollstonecraft).Isolate specific points in the readings that deal with the assumptions the writers have about human nature and their approaches to power.Keep in mind their political goals and show how the words and phrases the writers use provide insight into their ideologies. You should not summarize the entire writing nor go into contemporary political issues, but should instead focus on analyzing the nature of the ideologies within the readings.

At the beginning of the essay, write a full introduction that sets up the topic and gives aclearindication of what direction the essay is to take in the body paragraphs. Avoid making generalizations about the topic. Instead, focus on setting up the structure of your essay and touch on the topics covered in each body paragraph. The thesis comes as the last sentence in the introduction and needsto be restated as the first sentence in the conclusion. The thesis needs toprovide the main idea of the essay and must explain how the ideas of the writers relate to each other. Each body paragraph needs to have a clearly stated topic sentence that focuses the content of the paragraph. You must use at least four quotations in the essay (two quotations from one author and two from another). Provide at least one quotation per body paragraph, and use that quotation as evidence for the ideas you are developing. Ensure that your points relate directly to the quoted evidence and do not either stray from the main idea or make redundant points.

There is no set length for a quotation but in the majority of cases, quotations of three to six lines work best. Shorter quotations tend to provide too little evidence to work with, while longer quotations tend to provide too much.
